I call this image Up Against the Shield
So I did take this photo, of this guy, and he’s kind of surrounded by policia.
And, they’re very close to him. And when I saw this, I was like, you know, like, I’m holding my breath because in my home country, this would not happen. What’s different is that the police would never stand that close to anybody.
They’re very nervous, they’re very fearful, they’re very protected, and they’re trained to like, if you even touch them, they just defense mode and I remember taking that photo. And that’s also part of the memory of this photo is that when I took it, either the police officer bumped into me or I bumped into them, but I survived and I didn’t get thrown to the ground. So it, talks a little bit to my safety even around police and in the midst of a protest.
And I’m so happy that I was able to capture it because, again, it reminds me that things are different here than where I came from.
