Originally from Lisbon, I went to live in Sines for 4 years, the birthplace of the Portuguese naval explorer Vasco da Gama.
I returned to Lisbon with my fresh 19 years and never left this beautiful city, with all its energy. After many years running around through Lisbon, on a daily basis, I never had the opportunity to really stand still, breathe, focus and appreciate its grace.
I always was drawn to looking into images and imagining those situations printed in two dimensions since I was a little kid but never tried to do it by myself, apart from some attempts when I was a little boy and the film was expensive to show off mostly blurry images.
In mid 2022, I started photographing just for the enjoyment of this art. One of those days, I just left home and bought the most affordable camera I could get at the time. After the first press of the bottom, I never stopped. The relief it brought me to me was and still is unmeasurable. The challenge of reaching out to make better photos and give more expression to the images has been one of my main proposals.
Capturing different moments with my eyes and heart that I could also preserve in a digital camera and that I could share with others. I have done most of my images around street photography, alone and in company of good friends, and I do appreciate the human connection that we can capture in those types of images but also the beauty of the different locations and situations we observe when we are really looking.
Everything has some type of meaning even if at the first glimpse it does not seem like it.
With an open mind we can transform a simple image into the most wonderful feeling.
That is my view of photography.
So, with this work I want to show the interactions I had with all the friends that I made during the community photowalks, because those were the people that were moved, just like me, to gather those feelings in images and not just in words and thoughts.
