I’ve always been drawn to telling stories, ever since I was a kid making monster movies with my friends in my neighborhood. This led to a career working in film and television, but taking photos was always my escape or “non-work” way of engaging in that same creativity. I’m drawn to funny moments, leading lines and interesting compositions, and the excitement of experiencing something for the first time. I mostly focus on travel and street photography, but I enjoy the technical aspects of studio photography as well. Having moved from Colorado, USA where most of my subject matter was landscape, the vibrant city life of Lisbon feels fresh and exciting to me.
Theme
For my exhibition, I am drawn to the moments of every-day life where I catch individuals expressing their character within the backdrop of the city. These mundane moments captivate me, especially while this city feels so vibrant and anything but mundane to me.
I am intrigued by the idea of the individual, we are all absorbed within our own chaotic lives. Passing street strangers, what are they thinking about, why have they inhabited this space with me? My story tries to show those moments where my subjects are both present in my world, but also completely absorbed within their own. Sometimes finding humor in the juxtaposition, or often just the clash of aesthetics making an interesting picture.
